You’ve Got Questions—We’ve Got Answers

Do I have to be a Sydney Uni student to play for SUNC?

No! For Saturday Club and Social Netball competitions you do not have to be studying at Sydney Uni. We encourage everyone, both male and female to join the club! 

 

For certain varsity competitions including Teal Cup and UniSport Nationals you must be enrolled as a student at Sydney Uni.  

How can I sign up?

With so many different competitions, anyone interested in playing netball for SUNC is encouraged to contact us to get the most up to date information.  Further, see the competitions page for more info and registration links. â€‹

Club Season (Winter - April to September):

Please note that registrations for our yearly club winter season usually open in early to mid January of that year via the PlayHQ website. More information on the upcoming 2026 season can be found here.

What happens with trials for each competition?

We hold either trials or grading for most of our competitions. The best way to keep up to date on dates and times for these is via our social media channels (Instagram and Facebook) or email us at sydneyuninetball@gmail.com.

Club: For our club winter season, we hold grading only for the purpose of team and division allocation - our grading dates are not trials or try-outs. Once you have registered, you are guaranteed to be allocated a team!​

Varsity: Most of our varsity competitions, like UniSport Nationals in Semester 2, involve competitive trials. For some competitions, like Teal Cup, team entry is via invitation. â€‹â€‹â€‹

Can I play with friends?

Yes! When you register for the club season, there is a section in the registration form where you can fill in the names of friends you are signing up to play with. 

Where and when is training?

Training for the club season is held twice a week on Tuesday nights 8-10pm and Thursday nights 6:30-8:15pm at Sydney University Sports & Aquatic Centre (SUSAC) on campus. Teams may decide on one night that suits them best to train, but players are welcome at either night.

Trainings for our varsity competitions are organised prior to each event and are communicated to players selected in the lead up to each competition.

Where and when do you play?

Our Saturday club season is held at Cintra Park in Concord at the following timeslots: 12:30pm, 1:50pm, 3:10pm and 4.30pm. All mixed teams play at 4:30pm.

Your playing time will depend on what Division your team is graded into are determined by the Association. 

How much netball experience do I need to play?

SUNC welcomes players of all skill and experience levels, from beginners to representative-level players. For Saturday club netball, we enter teams into all competitive divisions from A Grade (most competitive), B Grade and C Grade. When you register for SUNC, there is a section of the registration form where you can outline a brief sentence about your playing experience to assist us with grading.

If you are after a more social vibe, let us know on your registration form as well and we will allocate you into a team with others looking to play socially. Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness runs a fully social netball competition on weeknights and Sundays. 

Can I umpire for the club?

Yes!! We are ALWAYS on the lookout for new umpires for our Saturday club season and have an Umpiring Coordinator on the Executive who is a great first point of contact for all things umpiring. 

 

All our umpires are paid. If you are keen play and umpire, you won't umpire during your game timeslot.

New Umpires

If you have never umpired before, our Saturday club season a fantastic opportunity to give it a go. SUNC will provide you with mentoring and opportunities to practice umpiring during training, as well as some gameday mentoring. We have a wonderful and supportive umpiring community, including players with National Badges and a wealth of knowledge to share.

Experienced Umpires

If you are keen get badged during the season, we offer umpire coaching and can liaise with the Association to help you to progress towards a National Badge.
